Meditation is a form of relaxation that changes the activity of the brain to reduce anxiety. We all experience different states of consciousness during our awakened hours as well as our sleep. Meditation helps a person achieve a relaxed state which is experienced during the awakened state. A person is able to achieve this through different techniques. One form of meditation is releasing all thoughts and focusing on a word until a level of relaxation is achieved. Another form is focusing on breathing. Yet another technique is using guided meditation, during which time a person or group is led through an experience using suggestions, such as going to a beautiful garden. A combination of techniques are sometimes used. Physical as well as emotional changes take place during meditation.

Prayer is combined with meditation when spirituality is introduced. A participant is invited to bring into their meditation a spiritual being to provide support, healing and/or guidance. This may be God, Jesus, the Divine Mother, a guardian angel or other form of spiritual guide. It is possible to connect on a soul level with God. Our program is based on the knowing that God is the source of all healing. Adding spirituality to meditation enhances the healing to include the spirit as well as the body and the mind.

Our meditation and prayer program utilizes a combination of techniques. We encourage participants to find their own resources within themselves to find that for which they are searching. The purpose is to provide a time to learn and practice these techniques as we develop a community of individuals who provide for each other support that extends beyond the time we spend together. Through this process the larger community is affected by the light and love that is manifested. Jesus told us: “You are the light of the world…………let your light shine before men” Matthew 5:14-16.
